Bicarbonate of soda 500g

Our sodium bicarbonate is a 100% pure, extra-fine powder and is aluminium-free. Also known as baking soda, it is mainly used in cooking and baking as a raising agent. It reacts with acidic components in batters, releasing carbon dioxide, which causes the batter to expand and creates the characteristic texture and crumb of pancakes, cakes, quick breads and other baked and fried foods. Acidic compounds that trigger this reaction include phosphates, cream of tartar, lemon juice, yoghurt, buttermilk, cocoa and vinegar. Sodium bicarbonate can replace baking powder provided that the recipe also contains enough of an acidic ingredient. Most types of baking powder contain sodium bicarbonate combined with one or more acid phosphates. Suitable for vegans and vegetarians; non-GMO, gluten-free, kosher friendly and halal friendly.
